Bullish Nancy shows no fear of dismissal yet the Parkhead faithful show fury after derby defeat.

The Celtic boss stated he was not afraid of losing his job, asserting, “The team is really close to things turning around,” in the wake of edging perilously close to the exit with a convincing defeat by Rangers.

Another Collapse Sees Derby Disaster

The Hoops were in front Rangers at the break but a disastrous second period let Rangers to draw level on points with the reigning league title holders. Nancy, who was hired in December, has now overseen six setbacks in his last eight games.

“We are together with the board,” said Nancy.

Pressed on his own future, Nancy replied: “It’s not on my mind. My focus is on finding ways to help my team to improve on details.

Supporters' Anger Erupts

The fans displayed their anger – towards the board and manager – by protesting at full time. The board would be most likely to bring back the former boss, who steered the club during a caretaker period before Nancy was hired, should a change be made.

“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. So this is the reality for the moment. But in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am giving up. No. The message is the turnaround is near, imminently close to reverse our form.”

Nancy’s Persistent Belief

Nancy highlights the fact Celtic play well for a half at a time. For instance, if not for poor finishing they could have been better than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we didn't take more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I must remain balanced.

“The level we had at times was exceptionally high. This is the reality. I wouldn't talk like that if it was untrue. But that’s why, in terms of results, I said this is the same story. That’s why I said that we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. Right now: the fine margins.”

“There were plenty of positives that we did, like today again. But now is performing for 90 minutes. My narrative would change if I didn't believe it. That’s why I firmly believe we’re going to be able to turn things around.”

Röhl’s Cautious Response

Rangers manager played down talk of a title charge in spite of what appeared to be a huge result. “One match at a time, and we can really build up a challenge,” he said. “The faith in the team is excellent.”
