Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important official stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
